I've been a fan of Steven Pressfield (The War of Art) for quite awhile, but only recently learned that he had based his book The Legend of Bagger Vance on the Hindu text The Bhagavad Vita. When I originally saw the movie, I interpreted Bagger's character to be representative of the Holy Spirit. A Humanist Message for my Father
The week my father died, a family friend came to visit him. Dad was not moving from his hospital bed anymore, but the bed was located in the bedroom of his home, the place where he had lived since 1960 and the only place for him to spend his final days. Dad was sleeping most of the time and our friend spoke to him as he slept, "Dale, you are a good man.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01820196265352060140noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1374916232575175765.post-19338605875826323232015-04-08T10:02:00.000-04:002015-04-08T10:02:32.118-04:00Giving Advice
How do I?
I find myself in the position this morning of not knowing where to begin on a project, and the project today is cleaning my house. I've never really had "cleaning days" or any systemic cleaning practices that have become second nature. The cleaning I do is more of the "lick and a promise" sort. I thought about asking others who are great housecleaners where I should begin, but I Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01820196265352060140noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1374916232575175765.post-17498650687164851372015-04-07T19:03:00.000-04:002015-04-07T19:03:02.289-04:00Feast or Famine

I've never been in a famine. But I've been to plenty of feasts. I come from a large extended family, and for many years there were 60 or so of us who gathered in my grandmother's large home at Thanksgiving. Ah, those were the days. Eventually, all the cousins started having their own children and then grandchildren, and the different branches of the family divided the gatherings intoAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01820196265352060140noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1374916232575175765.post-47244857611068654282015-04-06T08:46:00.002-04:002015-04-06T09:31:13.907-04:00Enlightenment

In my former worldview and system of thinking, I did not believe in Enlightenment, aside from the common, everyday use of the term. Gradually, I have begun to experience more and more what feels like capital e Enlightenment. This article by Barbara-Lynn Freed put a lot into words that I hadn't actually verbalized.

Do you floss your teeth? If not, do you feel guilty for not doing it? Hold that thought.
Hoofed it down the road this morning to my teeth cleaning appointment, knowing that I hadn't flossed much lately more than a couple times since my last cleaning. My excuse is my lingual bar retainer. I had an idea that Marianne Williamson had a new idea about how we can change the conditions of the political scene in our country. Her opening remarks described us as corporately co-creating a new field of possibilities.

There are many types of sponsors. In today's marketing-heavy world, sponsors are the companies who pay to support a program, sports events, conference, or workshop. Another type of sponsor is the sometimes life-changing ones available through 12-step programs. Guess which kind I have?

I recently had the harebrained idea to walk to my lunch date at Red Robin. In a spate of glossy thinking, I reasoned that Red Robin was only a little further away than the UU church I walked to a few weeks ago. In the tradition of the women in my family, I decided arbitrarily that an hour would be long enough to make the walk since that's how much time I had before my meeting.

Do you love etymology as much as I do? Discovering the origins of words is often quite illuminating, and sometimes it's simply another explanation of the definition. Take rebound, for instance. It comes from an Old French word, rebondir, meaning to bounce back up.
